About

Ben Shewry

Ben Shewry is a chef, restaurateur, writer, and creative leader whose influence extends far beyond the kitchen. Raised on a farm in rural New Zealand, he developed a deep appreciation for resourcefulness, community, and purpose, values that continue to shape his approach to leadership and innovation. By the age of 18, he was a qualified chef, working in leading New Zealand restaurants before moving to Melbourne in 2002.

As Head Chef and later owner of Attica, Ben has built one of the world’s most celebrated restaurants, known for its focus on culture, creativity, community, and commitment. His work has helped redefine what fine dining can represent, both in Australia and internationally.

Ben is featured on Chef’s Table and is the author of Origin (2012) and Uses for Obsession (2024). His story is one of resilience, creativity, and a relentless pursuit of excellence. Listen to Ben's National Press Club Address about creativity 'If you want to live a creative life' here.
